This piece is an homage to all the people that can sit in the sun and look stylish whilst doing it. A category to which I shall never belong (I think I might have burnt my face just taking this photo 👩🏻‍🦰😅). But maybe thats why I like sunny compositions so much. Living vicariously.

I meant to post this last saturday, which would have been mum’s 77th birthday, but it was just a bit too overwhelming. It’s been nearly two and half years since mum died but on days like these it’s still so heartbreaking and so hard to comprehend she’s not here anymore. I started painting again after she was gone and made this one of her at the beginning of last year. It’s based on a black and white photo of her when she was in her early twenties, I think around 1970. I added the love letters that dad had sent her from overseas when they were courting, which she kept all her life. I hope she would have liked it 💕
